She graduated from the General Hospital Nursing Program and became a Registered Nurse, working at the Noxen Clinic with Dr. Lester Saidman and Dr. Irvin Jacobs. She went back to college at 45 years old and became one of the first Physician's Assistants in the State of Pennsylvania. She was then employed by the Rural Health Corporation in Noxen and Shickshinny.

    Irene was the much-loved wife of John Zaleskas and a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a dedicated community volunteer; at the Red Cross, as a PTA president, a Lake-Lehman Band, Football and Wrestling Parent, Girl Scout Leader, Alter and Rosary Society Leader, and a CCD Coordinator at Our Lady of Victory Church.
