Religious Beliefs

Grandpa Isaac grew up in the Jewish tradition and remained culturally connected to Judaism, although I believe he became a religious skeptic sometime in adulthood. He continued to observe the traditions of the high holy days until his children left home.
Personal Life & Family

Grandpa Isaac was a very dedicated family person, maintaining close relationships with his siblings and several of his wife Ethel's as well. After Ethel died in 1950, he married Dorothy, a woman a couple of decades younger than him, and started a second family, including my adoption when my parents' brief marriage unraveled. Much of our leisure travel involved visits to other family members, near and far. During the three summers that we camped our way across and around the U. S. and Canada, our itinerary took us to many scenic places but was also anchored by stopovers with aunts, uncles, and cousins that shaped our travel routes. When he retired from teaching in 1965, we moved from rural New Jersey where we were proximate to family in the Greater New York City and Philadelphia areas to Miami Beach to be close to a beloved uncle and aunt who had preceded us there. In the closing years of his life, though, with the "nest" empty of "fledglings", Isaac and Dorothy spent a couple of years as gypsies roaming the western U. S. to enjoy the scenery until they decided to settle in the shadow of Mt. Ranier in Washington State because of its natural beauty.
