Self-made Man
John was part of a young sales force for the steel company he worked for. Soon after being hired, the company had to let the men go, but offered the salesmen a position in the steel mills, if they wish to remain employed. Only John excepted the position. As a result, he learned the business from the bottom up, learning the lingo, knowing how to talk to the men, and later, when he was re-hired as a salesman, that work served him well, and he rose to be the top salesman for the Youngstown Sheet and Tube company.
