Dr. Jack Swearingen and his life partner Nelson Jones, renovated a historic Italianate home in Brownsville, Oregon, which they purchased in 1958. It had been abandoned and empty for years. After completely rejuvenating the home they placed it on the National Registry of historic properties, for it was an important historic home of the Brown family, after which the town was named.
Jack was an English teacher at Central Linn High School. He later took a position at SWOCC from which he retired.
