Jack R. Shlikas, 78, of Fort Collins, died at home Wednesday, June 14, 1995, after an extended illness. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. today at Warren-Bohlender Chapel with the Rev. Bob Geller officiating. Cremation has taken place. Jack Shlikas was born Sept. 9, 1916, in Rockford, IL, to John and Jennie Kanapka, both deceased. He graduated from high school in Rockford and moved to Fort Collins, CO in 1968. Mr. Shlikas began his career as a machinist in Rockford and joined Woodward Governor Company in 1940. He progressed from machinist through tool designer, draftsman, engineer and salesman to administration. He was named assistant general manager of the Engine and Turbine Controls Division in Fort Collins in 1975, a position he maintained until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Shlikas was an active member of the Fort Collins Country Club. He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, photography and music. He had a passion for aviation, which he pursued as a pilot and aircraft owner since his 20s. He maintained that passion despite being forced to abandon flying by deteriorating health in later life. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Cornwall of West Chester, OH, and Beverly Marziaz of Stockbridge, GA; one son, Bob Shlikas of Wellington; and one sister, Ann Mikolaitis of Rockford. Published in the Fort Collins Coloradoan on Saturday, June 17, 1995
