  • Introduction

    Jacob Dudenhoefer was a soldier in the United States Civil War. His parents were Jacob Dudenhieffer and Magdalina Maier who immigrated to the United States from Herxheim, Rheinprovintz, Germany and were married in Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hamilton County, Ohio in 1837. Jacob was born in Ohio @1843. The family moved to Posey County Indiana. Jacob enlisted in August, 1862 as a member of the 32 Indiana "German" Infantry; he was captured at the Battle of Perryville, KY, was detained a few months, returned to his unit and engaged in the Battle of Stones River at Murfreesboro, Tennessee, continued with his unit to Chickamauga, and finally was killed at Look Out Mountain, Chattanooga on Missionary Ridge on November 25, 1863. He is buried at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
