He married Harriet Hand, and had children Josiah Hand Leek, William Mulford Leek, William Mulford Leek 2nd, Harriet Hand Leek, Ludowick v. Leek, Henry Fordham Leake, and Polly Maria Leek. Jacob Leek died at age 95 years old on January 22, 1881 in Guthrie Center, Guthrie County, IA.

In 1825, at the age of 40 years old, Jacob was alive when on August 18th, the Panic of 1825 began in London and spread to Europe, Latin America, and the United States. It affected Great Britain most strongly, leading to the closing of six banks in London and 60 banks in the country. Scottish adventurer - and trickster - Gregor MacGregor had invented a fictional Latin American country called Poyais and persuaded others to invest in the "country". The loss of funds on the part of banks and others began the panic.

In 1842, when he was 57 years old, on August 14th, General William J. Worth declared that the Florida War - also called the Second Seminole War - was over. It was the "the longest and most costly of the Indian conflicts of the United States", lasting from 1835 to 1842. By the end of the war, it was costing $93,300 per month - plus the pay of the regular soldiers. An agreement allowed the Seminole either to move west or to move to a reservation in southwest Florida.
