Jacob Michael Gronewald was born on August 4, 1815 in Altheim, Tübingen County, BW Germany. He married Anna Barbara (Appel) Gronewald on December 7, 1840. They had children Jacob Gruenewald, George Gruenewald, and Henry G. Gruenewald. He would also marry Elizabeth Huber on August 25, 1849. They had children Mary Groenewald, Mathilda Gruenewald Schramm, and Julia Groenewald. Jacob Gronewald died at age 54 years old on November 24, 1869 in St Charles, St Charles County, Missouri United States, and was buried on November 25, 1869 in Saint Charles, St. Charles County.

In 1815, in the year that Jacob Michael Gronewald was born, on February 3rd, the first commercial cheese factory was founded in Switzerland. The first employee of the factory was a man named Loris Federspiel and his title was “Käse Schneidemaschine” - "Cheese Cutting Machine". His job was to taste the cheese to see if it was aged enough to sell.

In 1829, by the time he was merely 14 years old, on July 23rd, in the United States, William Burt obtained the first patent for a kind of typewriter - an earlier one had been made in Italy in 1808. The typographer, as it was called, was a rectangular wooden box 12 inches wide, 12 inches high, and 18 inches long. It worked by depressing a rotating lever so that an inked letter made contact with the paper.
