Birth: 1726 z-*Armagh, Ireland Death: 1791 Clearfield County Pennsylvania, USA James was the husband of Rosanna (Reed) Alaexander 1742-1792 He was the son of John Alexander and Margaret (Glasson) Alexander bio Material in Veterans' Affairs Office entitled "Revolutionary Soldiers Buried in Mifflin County as copied from DAR records May 31, 1937" or Frysinger Memorial Volume in Mifflin County Historical Society library - clippings from LEWISTOWN GAZETTE, ca. 1914 or data from 1976-77 Cemetery Survey of Mifflin County: His marker was erected by Clearfield (PA) DAR. He served in the commissary department of Washington's army at Valley Forge in the winter of 1777-78 and died in 1791 at age 65 years. (DAR Record, Courtesy of Mona Anderson- ([contact link]) BIOGRAPHY: James married Rosa Reed near Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and explored the new territory adjacent to Chambersburg in 1755, traveling about 100 miles north to the "Valley", taking out a warrant for 1000 acres of land reaching from Jack's Mountain to Stone Mountain. They carried all their personal effects by horseback to their new home. A short distance away from Jame's settlement stood the home of an Indian Chief Logan of the Mingo Tribe. Soon after settling into their new home, Chief Logan went to Jame's home and carried his son to his cabin, James not being home, Rosa did not resist but determined to rescue her child at any cost, started off for Chief Logans cabin, but to her relief she met the friendly chief carrying the boy, who was wearing beautiful beaded moccassins that the chief had made. James assisted in establishing the first Presbyterian Church in the Valley. James also served in the Revolutionary War and was in the Commissary Department of Washington's army at Valley Forge during the winter of 1777-78. For this James received 1600 acres in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. Family links: Spouse: Rosanna Reed (1742 - 1792)
