James Andrew Kisor 1911 - 1984

James Andrew Kisor of Chauncey, Athens County, Ohio was born on September 3, 1911 to Earnest Clayton Kisor and Mary Kisor. He had siblings Floyd D Kisor, Delmer E Kisor, Elmer E. Kisor, Cecil Marion Kisor, Louis Lonnie Kisor, and William Kisor. He married Glenna Kisor on November 26, 1929, and had children James Andrew Kisor Jr and Charles Everett Kisor. James Kisor died at age 73 years old in October 1984 in Nelsonville.

In 1911, in the year that James Andrew Kisor was born, the first Indianapolis 500 was run in May. Ray Harroun was the winner - he was an engineer and had retired from racing but he came back for this race. After the race, he retired for good. The purse was $27,550 - the largest offered up to that time - and Harroun received $10,000 for first place. His average time was 74.602 mph.

In 1934, he was 23 years old when on July 22nd, gangster John Dillinger was killed in Chicago. His gang had robbed banks and police stations, among other charges, and he was being hunted by J. Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI - although many in the public saw him as a "Robin Hood". A madam from a brothel in which he was hiding became an informer for the FBI and, after a shootout with FBI agents, Dillinger was shot and died.
