James C Raburn was born on April 8, 1934 in Indianola, Red Willow County, Nebraska United States to Pearl S Raburn and Harry Raburn, and had siblings Dewey Raburn, Clyde Raburn, Mable Raburn, Neva Raburn, Majestie Raburn, Ellen Raburn, Patricia Raburn, Sharon Raburn, Loretta Raburn, and Clifford Raburn. He married Mary Jane Long Raburn, and had children Cari Sue Stuff Raburn, Timothy Cody Raburn, and Debra Jane Burch Raburn. James Raburn died at age 72 years old on April 11, 2006 in Kearney, Buffalo County, and was buried in Omaha, Douglas County.

In 1934, in the year that James C Raburn was born, on July 22nd, gangster John Dillinger was killed in Chicago. His gang had robbed banks and police stations, among other charges, and he was being hunted by J. Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI - although many in the public saw him as a "Robin Hood". A madam from a brothel in which he was hiding became an informer for the FBI and, after a shootout with FBI agents, Dillinger was shot and died.
