    James Caufield was born to Thomas Canfield (1842 - 1927) and Margaret Roach (1841 - 1918). Both parents were born in Ireland. He had siblings Margaret, Mary, M. Augusta, Agnes Marie, and Rose Canfield. He also had half siblings Margaret Caffield, Augusta Marth Caufield, and Rose Cauffield. James was a lifelong resident of the Dixon, Illinois, area. By 1920, James Caufield was married to wife Nellie Cotter and they were living with his father and sister Agnes in Dixon, Illinois. James and Nellie didn't have any children. He retired form The Borden Company.
