James Charles Comerford of Chiltern, Indigo Shire County, VIC Australia was born in 1831 in Dublin, D Ireland to Patrick Peter Comerford and Mary Jane (Mcmasters) Comerford. He had a brother Richard Comerford. He married Maria Horn Comerford in 1877, and had children Jane Ann (Comerford) Blackney and Richard Patrick Joseph Comerford. James Comerford died at age 72 years old on May 29, 1904 in Chiltern, VIC Australia.

In 1831, in the year that James Charles Comerford was born, around July 15th, the volcanic island of Graham Island briefly emerged in the Mediterranean Sea. The island was discovered by Humphrey Fleming Senhouse, a British sea captain, on August 1st and claimed by the United Kingdom. The island still exists but is now once again underwater.

In 1843, when he was only 12 years old, on January 31st, the Virginia Minstrels - also called the Virginia Serenaders - performed the first minstrel show. The whole troupe appeared in blackface. They were famous for the songs "Jimmy Crack Corn" and "Old Dan Tucker".
