James Charles Sears of Australia was born in 1875 to Eliza Ann (Fluck) Sears and James Chuter Sears. He had siblings Emily Sarah Sears, Priscilla Ann Sears, James Charles Sears, William John Sears, James Albert Sears, Alfred Sears, Eliza Sears, and Eliza Sears. James Sears died at age 3 years old in 1878.

In 1875, in the year that James Charles Sears was born, on March 1st, Congress passed the Civil Rights Act. The Act prohibited racial discrimination in both public accommodations and jury duty. Opposed by the public, the "public accommodations" sections of the Act were overturned by the Supreme Court eight years later.
Did you know?
In 1878, in the year of James Charles Sears's passing, on June 15th, photographer Eadweard Muybridge - at the request of Leland Stanford - produced the first sequence of stop-motion still photographs. Stanford contended that a galloping horse had all four feet off the ground. Only photos of a horse at a gallop would settle the question and, using 12 cameras and a series of photos, Muybridge settled the question: Stanford was right. Muybridge's use of several cameras and stills led to motion pictures.
