He married Margaret Ellen Dagg Cooper, and had children Gladys Theresa Anderson, Harold Cooper, Arthur Cooper, Mary May Madden (Nee Cooper), Margaret Beryl McKean (Nee Cooper), Elsie White (Nee Cooper), and Edith Elizabeth Moore (Nee Cooper). James Cooper died at age 68 years old on January 9, 1955 at Woronora Cemetery 121 Linden Street, in Sutherland, NSW.
