    James F Esterline is the son of Ida May Simmons (1896-1955) and Eber Otto Esterline (1891-1984). He had siblings Harold, Thelma, Betty, and Ramon Esterline. They grew up in Perry, Montgomery, Ohio and he later lived in Mad River, Montgomery, Ohio, USA. When he turned 18 years old, he registered for the draft on April 10, 1944, in Dayton, Ohio. At the time of his registration, he was living in Brookville, Montgomery, Ohio, and was employed by Moraine Products Riv Gmc. Just a few months later, on July 25, 1944, James enlisted in the military at Fort Hayes in Columbus, Ohio. James was not assigned to a particular branch of the military, as he had not yet received any specialized training. He served as a member of the Selectees (Enlisted Men) component, which was made up of men who had been drafted into the military and had not yet been assigned to a specific branch. On January 30, 1988 he married Lois June Riley (1928–2011) in Montgomery County, Ohio. The couple resided in Brookville, OH and Lewisburg, OH. He was also with Ruth K. N.N and they had two children together including Teresa A Esterline (1948-2017).
