James George Demas Jr was born on February 20, 1924 in Hammond, Lake, Indiana, USA to parents James George Demas (1896-1957) and Helen Kain (1902-1954). He enlisted in the United States military on January 21, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana, with the military serial number 35583158. He was inducted into the Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers, USA, Selectees (enlisted Men). He joined the Army branch and officially enlisted on January 28, 1943. James served for three years and two months before receiving an honorable discharge on March 12, 1946. A little before his discharge from the Army, on March 20, 1954 he married Anne Mikich (1933–2016) in Indiana and the couple had a daughter together.
