He married Mary Susan Newman, and had children Celia Adelaide Leek, Fred Leek, Charlie Leek, Nellie Mabel Leek, and Frances Genevieve Leek. James Leek died at age 69 years old on March 19, 1909 in Leavenworth, Leavenworth County, KS, and was buried in March 1909 at Mount Muncie Cemetery in Lansing.
