James Leo Guck was born to Frank Edward Guck (1888 - 1972) and Rose Victoria Schultheis (1893 - 1973). He had eleven siblings. A veteran of World War II, James served as a PFC in the United States Army. James Guck maried Ruth Blanche Betz (1924 - 2004) in 1950 in St. Paul, Minnesota, and they had one daughter.
