    James Lawrence "Larry" Alphen Jr., 76, of 14 Colonial Lane, Winchendon, died Wednesday, December 9th, at his residence. He was born in Cambridge on December 14,1932, the son of the late James L. and Anne (McCarthy) Alphen and had lived in Winchendon for six years, after moving from Orange. Larry was a graduate of Portland, CT High School. Several years ago, Larry operated Flexible Packaging in South Hadley, where he lived and then worked as a sales manager at New England Container in Chicopee for 8 years. He then bought a dry cleaning business in Springfield. Larry later owned and operated Mailboxes Etc in Northampton and Bright Side Car Wash and Laundromat in Athol. Larry was a motorcycle enthusiast and had been a member of Blue Knights Motorcycle Group. He was a member of United Parish Church in Winchendon and was a blood donor. He leaves two sons, Christopher Alphen of North Reading and Matthew Alphen of Lynnfield; a daughter, Lucinda "Cindy" Maddaleni of Peabody and six grandchildren. A sister, Audrey Alphen, predeceased him. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 16th at 11:30 A.M. in the United Parish, 39 Front Street, Winchendon. The Rev. F. Calvin Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Belmont Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the United Parish, 39 Front Street, Winchendon, MA. 01475. Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon is directing arrangements.
