SOUTH HAVEN - James Lee Welbourne, 25, of Plano, Texas, formerly of South Haven, died Sunday in a Dallas hospital of burns suffered in an accident involving a space heater. Another man was also fatally burned in the accident. Welbourne was a 1976 graduate of Portage High School and resided in Plano for three years. He was born Oct. 4, 1957 in San Jose, Calif., a son of Ralph Charles and Lorene (Pitcock) Welbourne. Survivors include a son, Timothy James of Plano; his mother and stepfather, Lorene and Roy Contreraz of South Haven; his father; a sister, Irma Heatton of Alaska; and nine brothers, John Welbourne of Kentucky, Bradley Welbourne and Robert Contreraz, both serving with the U.S. Air Force in Germany, Robert Welbourne, Paul Contreraz, serving with the U.S. Navy in Philadelphia, Jesse, Roy, Roger, and Ronald Contrarez, all of South Haven; and foster grandmother, Eunice Nunlet of Kentucky. Services 10:30 a.m. Friday at Engel Funeral Home, Portage; burial Calvary Ceme tery, Portage; visitation 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
