James Reed Hearle 1855 - 1936

James Reed Hearle of Ken Hill Australia was born on January 9, 1855 in Falmouth, Cornwall County, England United Kingdom to James Hearle and Elizabeth Polkinhorne Hearle. James Hearle had a brother Frederick Hearle. He married Jane Dillend Hearle in 1887. They had children Victoria Jane (Hearle) Alison, Caroline Grace Hearle, Edward Robert Hearle, and Sylvia Rose Hearle. He married Caroline (Nettle) Hearle, and they had children James Reed Hearle Jr., Annie Goldsworth Hughes, Elizabeth Charlotte (Hearle) Sutton, and John Hearle. James Hearle died at age 81 years old on May 11, 1936 in Carnegie, City of Glen Eira County, VIC Australia, and was buried at Melbourne General Cemetery College Cres, in Parkville, City of Melbourne County.

In 1855, in the year that James Reed Hearle was born, on March 3rd, Congress appropriated $30,000 to create the U.S. Camel Corps. The idea was to use camels as pack animals in the Southwest and 34 camels were bought. But the Army wasn't enthusiastic about the idea and after the Civil War the Camel Corps was entirely abandoned.
