James Sharpe Deuchar of Mangaweka, Manawatu-Wanganui New Zealand was born on July 30, 1857 in Arbroath, Angus Council County, Scotland United Kingdom. He was in a relationship with Elizabeth Alice Evans, and had children Thomas Henry Fletcher, William George Deuchar, and Eileen Mary Deuchar. James Deuchar died at age 45 years old on June 8, 1903 at Wanganui Hospital 100 Heads Rd, in Wanganui, Wanganui District County, Manawatu-Wanganui New Zealand, and was buried at Mangaweka Cemetery in Marton, Rangitikei District County.

    James Sharp Deuchar was born on July 30th, 1857 in Scotland to Alexander Deuchar (1824 - 1873) and Jane Sharp Deuchar (1826 - 1894). He had a half brother, George Duncan Deuchar, born in 1859. Married twice, James first married Edith Laura Horrocks (1850 - 1883 in 1882 in Wellington, New Zealand and they had son James Charles Alexander Deuchar (1883 - 1949). His second marriage was to Elizabeth Alice Evans (1860 - 1934) on November 21st, 1898. They had two daughters: Ruby and Eileen; and one son, William.

In 1857, in the year that James Sharpe Deuchar was born, on March 2nd, the largest slave auction in US history was begun. Called "The Weeping Time", the auction lasted 2 days. Slave owner Pierce M. Butler - who had inherited the slaves 20 years before but was now deeply in debt - sold 436 men, women, children, and infants, all of whom were kept in stalls at a racetrack in Savannah, Georgia. The people were held for weeks before the auction in the horse stalls.
