James married Gladys Cecilia Swain (Gladys Winko) on November 5th 1927 in Natchez Adams County Mississippi and they had four children together: James Gilbert Couillard Sims Jr. (1928-1930, Gladys Katherine "Kitty" (1930-2004), Rita Marie (1931-2015), and Dorothy Lois Sims (1932-2002).
