James Warner Stubbs Jr of San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas United States was born in 1947 to Frankie Barnes Stubbs and James Warner Stubbs. He had siblings John Stubbs and Elizabeth Stubbs. He was in a relationship with Linda Wright, and had children Brian James Stubbs and Kimberly Laurel Stubbs Skarbø. James Stubbs died at age 27 years old in 1974, and was buried in 1974.

In 1947, in the year that James Warner Stubbs, Jr was born, on April 15th, Jackie Robinson joined the Brooklyn Dodgers, playing first base. He was the first black man to play in the Major Leagues. Since the 1880's, professional baseball had been segregated and blacks played in the "Negro leagues". He went on to play for 10 years.

In 1954, by the time he was only 7 years old, on May 17th, the Supreme Court released a decision on Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka. The ruling stated that state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students was unconstitutional thus paving the way for integration in schools.
