James William Elliott was born in Jasper, Alabama. He left Jasper to attend the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1939 and remained there until his graduation in 1943. After WWII, and earning his Master’s degree in Civil Engineering in 1946 (Tuscaloosa), he moved Sipsey, Alabam and worked for DeBardenleben Coal and Iron, Company until 1956. In that year, he moved his family to Fairfield, Alabama and remained there until he retired. Upon retirement, he built a home in Jasper, Alabama and returned there to live out his life on the property that he grew up on.
Early Life & Education

James William Elliott went to Walker High School, in Jasper, Alabama. Upon graduation, he enrolled and attended the University of Alabama. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1943 with a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering. After serving in the OSS during WWII, he returned to the University of Alabama and earned his Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering.

James William Elliott served in the OSS during WWII. He was recommended for this duty by Dr. Gallalee and enlisted for duty in 1943. In his service to the OSS (Office of Strategic Services), James was part of special forces group sent to rescue General Wainwright. He was a demolition expert and stationed in Kunming, China, at the Flying Tiger Base.

James W. Elliott was a devoted Husband and Father. He enjoyed quail hunting and fly fishing (which he was quite good at). He also enjoyed working on the land on which he grew up. James gardened and farmed about ten acres of the “old home place).
