Jane Gazley was born in 1871 to parents Henry Gazley (1835-1910) and Isabella Mary Bradbury (1846-1930). She had siblings Catherine Ann "Annie" Gazley (1865-1927), John Robert Bradbury Gazley (1868-1939), James Gazley (1881-1952), Alfred Gazley (1888-1890), and Ruth Gazley (1892-1959). On October 31, 1889 she married Robert William Maskell (1862–1911) in Wentworth, New South Wales, Australia. The couple had a son together, Clarence Robert Maskell (1899-1966).
