Jane (Urwin) Lord of Footscray, City of Maribyrnong County, VIC Australia was born on July 19, 1857 in Footscray to James Urwin and Jane Elizabeth Harrison Urwin. She had siblings Mary Josephine Urwin, Josephine Lafontaione (Urwin) Morgan, Margaret Annie (Urwin) Smith, and William James Urwin. She married James Lord in 1873, and had children William Henry Lord, Thomas Lord, Ernest Urwin Lord, Josephine Lord, Violet Jane Lord, Mary Rachel Lord, Franklin Andrew Lord, and Victoria Florence Eva Lord. Jane Lord died at age 73 years old on January 28, 1931 in Mitta Mitta.

In 1857, in the year that Jane Urwin Lord was born, on March 6th, the US Supreme Court ruled that Blacks were not citizens and that slaves couldn't sue for freedom. The case was known as Dred Scott v. Sandford. It further divided the country and added to the forces that created the Civil War. It wasn't overturned until the 14th Amendment became law in 1868.
