Janis Mintiks married Elza (Taurins) Mintiks and they had two children, Janis J. Mintiks Jr and Gundega Mintiks. Born in Latvia, Janis and Elza entered the United States via New York, New York on August 20, 1949. Their eldest, Janis Jr. was born in Austria on September 18, 1944. Born in Latvia, Janis immigrated to the United States and lived in Wisconsin, where he died at the age of 96. He was cremated and his and his wife's remains were taken back to Latvia.

A memorial service was held at the Milwaukee Latvian E>V. Lutheran Holy Trinity Church.

Mintiks, Janis Died Thurs., Nov. 7, 2002, age 96 years. Husband of the late Elza Taurins Mintiks. Father of Janis (Sally) Mintiks, Jr. and Gundega (Janis) Penikis. Grandfather of Andrejs (Amanda) Penikis. Great-grandfather of Kristina, Annalise and Suzanna. Further survived by other relatives and friends in the USA and Latvia. A Memorial Service will be held Sun., Nov. 24 following the 10 AM Worship Service at the MILWAUKEE LATVIAN EV. LUTHERAN HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, 1853 N. 75th St., Wauwatosa. Janis and Elza's cremated remains will later be taken to Latvia.
