Janis Elaine Rawley graduated from Sam Houston State University and married Samuel Houston McShan. She gave birth to Ginger Elaine McShan in 1963 and Gina Diedra McShan in 1966. Janis and Sam divorced late 1965 or early 1966. She moved to Houston to live with her parents John Carroll Rawley and Margaret Rawley and became a teacher with the Spring Branch Independent School System. She married Thomas Ruston in 1972. They divorced in 1980. Janis was a single mother until 1981 when she abandoned her teenaged daughters due to her mental health difficulties. She traveled the USA, remarried and divorced again, and then married for the last time to Mark Chapman of Bellingham, WA. She lived in Bellingham until her death from a brain aneurysm in 1997.
