Jantje (maiden name unknown) was born in Sybecarspel, Holland on Oct 11, 1888. She apparently had been married and divorced at some point and had a daughter named Gertrude. Jantje remarried May 25, 1917 in Wognum, Holland to Adrianus Kooyman (born January 18, 1892 in Haarlem, Holland). On April 25, 1925 the couple entered the United States as immigrants through Ellis Island, New York, NY via the SS Rotterdam along with 4 children. The children's names were Jacobus (Jack) born 11/22/17 in Wognum, Holland, Antje (Ann) born 12/2/18 in Nibboxwoud, Holland, Willem (William) born 3/10/20 in Twisk, Holland, and Adrianus (Arthur) born 4/28/22 Opperdoes, Holland. Two more children were born to the couple in America; Peter 5/27/27 in Gates Mills, Ohio, and Hubert (Mike) 8/22/28 in Gates Mills, Ohio. Her oldest daughter, Gertrude, returned to Holland and lived there all her life. Jantje's other six children remained in America as citizens, four sons serving in the United States military. Jantje Kooyman lived in Gates Mills, Chardon, Willoughby, Mentor and Chesterland, Ohio. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Adrianus, was a landscaper and plumber. Jantje was also called "Janet" in America. This information is provided by her granddaughter, Janet, from information found on a copy of my grandfather's Petition for Naturalization paperwork.
