Introduction

Jason was born to David Collum and Kathleen Vanderhoef in Brookfield, WI. They moved to Racine, WI when Jason was 1. After his parents divorced in 1976, Kathleen remarried to Lawrence Campeau, Jr. They gave Jason two sisters: Jeannine & Julia. Jason was raised mostly in Catholic schools. He went to college to become a teacher, but was swayed into the arts and became a public figure through his film work (mostly low-budget horror films and documentaries) and journalism. He is best known for OCTOBER MOON (2005), among the first gay-themed horror films of the early 21st century, and SCREAMING IN HIGH HEELS (2011). He authored the book ASSAULT OF KILLER B'S (McFarland, 2004). He was an assistant editor for Femme Fatales magazine (2001-2002) and Cinefantastique (CFQ) magazine (2002). CFQ was sold to another publisher before Jason's first issue was released. The Advocate magazine (April/May 2013) cited him as one of the "40 Under 40" artists to watch. He moved to West Hollywood, CA from 1998 - 2001; Chicago, IL 2001 - 2003; and then returned to Racine. In 2004 he met his life partner Michael John Isaacson. Their first official date was on December 29, 2004. They were domestically partnered on December 29, 2009. Jason returned to education as a lecturer of film studies at UW-Parkside sporadically from 2000-2002, then permanently 2009-2011. He received his post-baccalaureate in early childhood education in 2014 with his focus on teaching Kindergarten (5K).
