I am the Granddaughter of Her Sister Joyce Lorraine DeVold (Slocum) she married Lyle Elsworth Slocum. My Grandmother Joyce told me that her sister Jennette had twins girls Jean,Jone and another daughter Janet Ann. I have letter's that my mother Marlene Lorraine Slocum (Reed) She married my Father Kenneth Richard Reed. The letters that My Great Aunt Jennette wrote were so careing and loving.Reading the letters made me feel so much love and compassion she had for her sister Joyce's children. I even found some about my older sister Joice Lorraine Reed when she was born and when she passed and her and Wilfred Larmour showing they cared and later found ones about Christmas time. And another about finding her sister Joyce my Grandmother. Also about Great-grandfather Oscar DeVold sending his love to his Granddaughters and Marlene,Doris Jean,William Larry (Bill) his Grandson. The letter seems like it might been written around before he passed.

I was young I had never been up across the straights before. It was our family's first vacation and only vacation. It was the first time I ever swam in lake Superior. The water splashed on the rocks and almost if you weren't careful the water would rush you into the rocks. The water was so cold. I didnt care after that we went camping. It was awesome the woods were kinda different at night and i didnt sleep well i kept hearing the animals outside our tent. Well i guess i was so excited that we were going to visit family i finally got to sleep. We stopped at Aunt Jeannette house first but sadly she wasnt home. I and mom were bummed we had been looking forward to it the whole day before but forgot she might of had to run some errands. Then dad suggested that maybe we go see cousin Jeannie ware she lived on a huge hill you could almost see the whole town from the porch and i had so much fun thire I wish i could have met Aunt Jeannette. i knew if her kids were fun as adults i knew she would be fun to be around. I was young. Grandma Joyce her younger sister told me they had many good times. They both were full of life, lots of love for family. I look at the old letters My Great Aunt wrote and I had a sence of what a kind person she was. Even the notes that were written that my mom had stashed away in a brown side coffee table back when my big sister Joyce was alive in 76. I could tell from the letters she was tring to comfort mom and dad with her kind gentle words. I cried tring to read the letters because you could actually feel the love and compassion she had. She was very well respected and respected others. I will always charish these letters. It gives me somewhat of a sense of what both her and my Grandmother was like together grewing up. Now i know things were perfect all the time. But things happen and sure they both missed thire parents Oscar and Ida Mae, but they delt with and move on. Figuratively speaking ofcourse. I look at how respectable they were back in the day. It kinda makes you stop to think, why cant it be like that now days. But I will always remind myself that...Family is forever and never forgotten. Kinda like those Forget Me Nots flowers.
