Jeannine Carpenter of Laie, Honolulu County, HI was born on January 19, 1927 at Lafayette Street, in Fall River, Bristol County, Massachusetts United States to Marie Elise (Beaupre) Dufour and Oliver Dufour. She married Gerald William Carpenter on June 1, 1946 in Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island, and they were married until Gerald's death in 1985 in Hawaii. She had a child Denise Alice Carpenter. Jeannine Carpenter died at age 68 years old on July 11, 1995, and was buried at National Memorial Cemetery Of The Pacific Section X Site 754 2177 Puowaina Drive, in Honolulu.

In 1927, in the year that Jeannine Carpenter was born, the first "talkie" (a movie with music, songs, and talking), The Jazz Singer, was released. Al Jolson starred as a cantor's son who instead of following in his father's footsteps as expected, becomes a singer of popular songs. Banished by his father, they reconcile on his father's deathbed. It was a tear-jerker and audiences went wild - especially when they heard the songs. Thus begun the demise of silent films and the rise of "talkies".

Ten Hollywood writers and directors had refused to testify to the Committee regarding "Communists" or "Reds" in the movie industry. The next day, the blacklist was created and they were fired.
