Bergmann name is Scandinavian/Nordic, from old Norse Berg & Mann, a geographic name meaning "mountain" & "man" or "men". This surname was attached as a description of where decendants hailed from. Bergmann/Bergman is a name found in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland & Iceland. Cities named Bergmann, a Bergmann festival & other uses of the name originate from Viking era with earliest instances found predating 400 A.D. Centuries later some Bergmann family members migrated south and settled in Austria, Bavaria and Germany, this is probably why Bergmann is often mistaken as German in origin. Bergmann is also thought to be a variation of "Bergmannis". The first recorded U.S. immigrant ancestor related to Jeramy was his Great, Great-Grandfather, who arrived through Galveston, TX in the late 1800's. He settled on Galveston with his wife and young daughter. He was a Lutheran Minister of a small church on Galveston. The hurricane that struck the area shortly after he had arrived in Texas, killed his wife and child while he was on the mainland gathering supplies for the church. When he returned to Galveston, his family was gone and never seen again. He eventually remarried and had at least one son, possibly two. He remained in Texas until his death. His son, Elmer lived in Texas and had one son, Robert with his first wife. Elmer worked as an electrical engineer for Boeing and eventually moved to WA and remarried Esther Marie, they had no other children. Robert Bergmann lived in Texas and had 4 children with his first wife, Patsy. They had 3 boys, Terry, Michael & Robert as well as a daughter, Linda. Robert Bergmann, Sr died in Arlington, TX in the 1980's. Terry Bergmann was a Police officer with Tampa PD, he was shot and killed in the line of duty in 1978. Michael Bergmann died around 2015, Robert Jr died in 2020. Terry Bergmann had 3 make children, Jeramy, James & Jason.
