He grew up in Detroit alongside his older sister, Harriet Evelyn Curl Laplante (1921-2010). He enlisted in the United States Army in Dearborn, Michigan, serving in the Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers branch and attaining the rank of Technician 5th Grade. During his time in the army, it is likely that he played a role in supporting the war effort in the Pacific theater. He served from March 9, 1942, until December 30, 1949. Jerome was married twice in his life. His first wife was Helene Curl (1919-1990), with whom he had one son. He later married Polly Ann Claypool (1926-1999), with whom he had two children, including a daughter named Ruth Ann Curl (born 1946). In 1983, Jerome moved to Homeland, California, where he spent the remainder of his life. He passed away in Calimesa, Riverside, California, USA in 1996.
