He was a R&R singer with The Jades while at SMU.
Later a lawyer (SMU Law School,grad. 1967). Served as a USNavy JAG officer in Subic Bay, RPI;Danang,RVN & Washington,D.C.
First elected to the Dallas City Council after extensive service on various Boards and Commission' including the Dallas Zoning Board and as Chairman of ZOAC as well as Vice Chair of the Regional Transportation Council. He was President of the Executive Board of the NCTCOG during his early years on the Dallas City Council.
He was a founder and executive of the Rucker Construction Company, of which he was a co-founder in 1970 and CM of DFW Airport.
He was founder of GAF&G, a P&C insurance company based in Dallas.
Retired from politics after losing 1990 Congressional race (TX-5) to incumbent Democrat in 1990 General Election. US Presidential observer of 1991 El Salvador
Election, first election there ever. He was deeply involved in formation of the Dallas Texas evonomy and the DFW Airport. He moved to Houston in 2004.
He divorced Andria in that year and married his college sweatheart, Caroline Spiller in 2007.
He retired in Crockett Texas in 2013.
Jerry is survived by two sons, William Kurt Rucker, of Golden CO and Austin Neal Rucker of Dallas, two grandsons, Kai and Rowan Rucker, both of Golden CO.
