    I never knew Jesse of course, he died 101 years before I was born, however it has always been passed down through the generations, of the Dowsett family...that Jesse was a cousin. I'd love to be able to connect up the tree officially in the hope that we could trace back further in England, who James Dowsett was born to...possibly his father may have been brother to Jesse's great grandfather.

In 1825, on October 26th, the Erie Canal opened. Construction had begun in 1817 and the completion of the canal provided passage from Albany New York to Buffalo New York and Lake Erie. Previously, pack animals had to be used to transport goods - there were no railroads - and the canal allowed goods to be shipped relatively easily and quickly.
