In 1922, in the year that Jesse Wayne Choate was born, the Lincoln Memorial was dedicated in Washington, D.C. on May 30th. More than 35,000 people attended the dedication including Lincoln's son, Robert Todd Lincoln, and many Union and Confederate veterans - although the audience was segregated. The Memorial took 10 years to complete.

In 1967, Jesse was 45 years old when on October 2nd, Thurgood Marshall was sworn in as the first black US Supreme Court justice. Marshall was the great-grandson of a slave and graduated first in his class at Howard University Law School. His nomination to the Supreme Court was approved by the Senate, 69 to 11.

The Dirty Thirties - The Dust Bowl
From the early 1930s through 1940, the Great Plains of the United States and Canada were devastated by dust storms, causing great economic and social anguish. Just mention the term 'Dust Bowl' and your mind immediately goes to the severe dust storms that impacted the American and Canadian prairies of the 1930s. Many farmers left their family farms and simply picked up and moved, leaving everything behind. When you see what these people faced and how they endured, you might begin to understand why.
