    CARVAJAL Joseph Carvajal died June 12, 1999, he was 20. He was very athletic in school and participated in football, track, baseball, and power lifting. He was also a member of Immaculate Conception Church. Joseph was a wonderful person who was loved and will be deeply missed. Survivors include his mother, Angie Hesseltine (Ronny) of Sinton, his father Joe M. Carvajal of Corpus Christi; his fiance, Elda Cortez of Taft; a son, Jarod Joseph Carvajal of Taft; one sister, Lori Meurer of Corpus Christi; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Pasqual Garcia of Goliad; and paternal grandfather, Angel Carvajal of Corpus Christ; and paternal grandmother, Rebecca Carvajal. Rosary will be recited Wednesday June 16, 1999 at 7:30 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home in Taft. Mass will be celebrated Thursday June 17, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at Taft Memorial Park Cemetery - Corpus Christi Caller - Times (Corpus Christi, Texas) Tuesday June 15, 1999.

In 1980, by the time he was just 2 years old, on April 24th, a rescue attempt was begun in the Iranian Hostage Crisis. The attempt failed and 8 US servicemen were killed. Eight helicopters had been sent for the mission, but only 5 arrived in operating condition., Since the military had advised that the mission be aborted if there were fewer than 6 helicopters, President Carter stopped it. Upon leaving, a helicopter collided with a transport plane and the men were killed.
