    Joe Dean Walser, age 75, of Old Mill Farm Road, passed away peacefully Monday, July 27, 2020 at his home, with his family by his side. A private funeral service is planned at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel. Mr. Walser will lie in state from 5:00-7:00 PM, on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at the funeral home. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be limits to follow as no more than 50 people may be in the building at one time and must wear a mask and use social distancing of 6 feet. He fought a brave battle with multiple health issues but, never complained. Joe loved hunting, fishing and all outdoor activities. Mr. Walser was born on May 9, 1945 to Murphy and Helen Walser. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Surviving are his son, Tracy Walser (Serena) of Lexington; sisters, Ruby Leonard (Bernard), Gayle Moorefield and brother, Ralph Walser all of Lexington; and two grandchildren, Reid Daniels and Kristian McKay; special aunt, Paige Bailey of Lexington and a host of loving nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Good Hope UMC, PO Box 1448, Lexington, NC 27293, or Hospice of Davidson Co., 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292 Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel is serving the Walser family.

In 1945, in the year that Joe Dean Walser was born, on April 12th, President Franklin D. Roosevelt died of a cerebral hemorrhage in Warm Springs, Georgia. At 1p, he was sitting for a portrait when he complained that he had a "terrific pain" in the back of his head and collapsed. A doctor was summoned and the doctor gave him a shot of adrenaline into his heart. It didn't help and he was pronounced dead at 3:30 p.m. A slow moving train took him back to Washington D.C. while thousands of mourners lined the tracks. He was buried at his home in Hyde Park, New York.

In 1968, Joe was 23 years old when on April 4th, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the civil rights leader, was shot and killed by an assassin in Memphis. James Earl Ray was apprehended and plead guilty to shooting Dr. King. Ray died in jail in 1998.
