    Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Private in Company B, 4th West Virginia Infantry, Union Army. At the Siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi, on May 22, 1863, Private Parsons as a volunteer of a storming party was at the head of his attacking force on a Confederate strong point. For bravery in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
