John Andrew Gurlides 1863 - 1938

John Andrew Gurlides was born in 1863 in Tuzla County, Istanbul Turkey to Andrew Gurlides and Maria (Despini) Gurlides, and had a brother Nikolaos Andrew Gurlides. He married Despina (Georgiades) Gurlides, and they were married until Despina's death on February 29, 1936. He had children Zafiro (Gurlides) Kourides, James Gurlides, George Gurlidy, Christy John Gurlides, and Peter John Gurlides. John Gurlides died at age 74 years old on August 4, 1938 in Manhattan County, New York United States.

In 1863, in the year that John Andrew Gurlides was born, on January 1st, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. The Proclamation made the abolition of slavery in the Confederate states an official war goal.
