John Andrew Pate 1865 - 1949

John Andrew Pate was born on October 6, 1865 in Murphysboro, Illinois United States to Perleamon Pate and Arvilla Adeline (Bowley) Pate, and had siblings Oliver Franklin Pate, George Thomas Pate, Louisa Ann Pate, Alfred Leroy Pate, Adeline Belle Pate, James Edward Pate, Phillip Anthony Pate, and Mary Elizabeth Pate. John Pate married Annice (Bridges) Pate on June 2, 1892, and died at age 83 years old on May 2, 1949.

In 1865, in the year that John Andrew Pate was born, on April 9th, Confederate Army General Robert E. Lee surrendered to the Union Army at Appomattox Court House. Lee's surrender led to a series of surrenders in the Confederacy and in 1866 President Johnson issued a "Proclamation—Declaring that Peace, Order, Tranquility, and Civil Authority Now Exists in and Throughout the Whole of the United States of America".
