    BANIK, John 1936 Java Herald, Java SD, October 8-15-22 1936 * 1st Pg, 2nd Col – Former Java man Passes At Aberdeen John Banik, 64, a resident of Java for over 26(?) years, passed away at an Aberdeen hospital Sunday after a lingering illness of several years. Funeral services were held at the Wilson funeral home and interment made in the Aberdeen cemetery. John Banik was born March 26, 1872 in South Russia and came to America with his parents at the age of 12 years. He settled near Bowdle in 1885 and in 1894 was married to KATIE BAUMBACH at Scotland, S.D. The family moved to Java some years later and for many years he was engaged in a garage and machine shop business. The family moved about eight or ten years ago to Manto, S.D., to engage in farming. His health began to fail soon after they left Java and several years ago it was necessary to remove him to a hospital for constant care. The deceased was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Katie Banik; four sons, Willis, Aberdeen, Allie, Bismarck, N.D., Harry, Aberdeen, and Elmer, Minneapolis; three daughters, Mrs. Henry Goodmanson, Hill City, Mrs. C. A. Storrs, Eugene, Ore., and Mrs. Henry Reiswig, Lodi, Calif.; three brothers, Albert, Portland, Ore., William, also of Portland, and Edward, Maple Creek, Sask., Canada. One son, Albert, and a sister, Mrs. John Hartman, preceded him in death. The Herald extends sincere sympathy to the family in their bereavement.
