John Charles Crellin 1909 - 1976

John Charles Crellin of VIC Australia was born in 1909 in Newport, City of Hobsons Bay County to Sarah Howlett and Robert Henry Crellin. He had siblings Jessie Elizabeth Martha Crellin, Doris Myrtle Crellin, Edna Catherine Crellin, James Henry Crellin, and Robert James Crellin. He married Joyce Gwene Carman in 1934, and had children Kenneth John Crellin, James Crellin, Margaret Heather Crellin, Peter Stanley Crellin, and Russell Crellin. John Crellin died at age 66 years old in 1976 at Barwon River.

In 1909, in the year that John Charles Crellin was born, William Howard Taft became the 27th President of the United States on March 4th. Previously Secretary of War, Judge on the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, Solicitor General of the U.S., and Governor of both the Philippines and Cuba, Taft was the only President who went on to become Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

In 1920, when he was just 11 years old, the Volstead Act became law. Formally called the National Prohibition Act, the Volstead Act enabled law enforcement agencies to carry out the 18th Amendment.
