John Claude Turner Troy of Will Australia was born in 1870 in Williamstown OR 'At Sea', Victoria to John Turner Troy and Catherine Covington Troy. He had siblings Lizzie Watt, George Covington Troy, Mabel Malvina Troy, and Amy Brown (Troy) Ibbotson. John Claude Troy died at age 81 years old in 1951.

    John Claude was temporarily made a ward of the state at around age 12 due to his "thieving propensities" and his refusal to go to school. This was while he lived with his mother in Queenscliff, after his father had deserted the family. Thus, he was institutionalised, first at Royal Park receiving house and later at Sandhurst (Bendigo) Boys Home. He was returned to his mother several years later.
  • Professional Career

    John Claude originally tried to make a living off a block of land in Chum Creek, which he rented as a selection from the Victorian government in the early 1890s. He was unable to maintain this financially and ended up have to return to the block to the state. After this, he became a manager of a furniture company, Maples, in Prahran for many years.
