John Clench, Esq., Judge to Queen Elizabeth I
This is a copy of a painting done by Wenceslas Holler in 1524 which he entitled "A True Image of John Clench, Esquire, Judge to Her Serene Highness, Queen Elizabeth" I. John Clench was the grandfather of Thomasine Clench (11 Aug 1608-abt 1665) who in Essex Co, England on 16 April 1634 married Edmund Frost (28 Aug 1593-12 July 1672). They had both been born in England, but came to America and lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he was the leading Elder of the Cambridge Church. They had seven children: six sons and one daughter. I have been told Edmund played an important role in the development of the colony and the establishment of Harvard University.
Date & Place: in United Kingdom
