John Daniel Bolis is the son of Joseph Bolis (1871-1941) and Delia Leonard (1872-1939). He had siblings Anna, Adele, Josephine, Irene, and George Bolis. He registered for the military on February 16, 1942, in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, at the age of 39. At the time of registration, he was employed by C Ludwig Baumann. He later enlisted in the US Army on July 30, 1942, at Ft. Jay Governors Island in New York. He was enlisted as a Private in the Selectees (enlisted men) category of the Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers, USA. John served in the US Army during World War II and was discharged on May 27, 1943, after serving for less than a year. Right after he enlisted into the Army, John had married Edna C McDonough on August 7, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA.
