Was married twice; 1st to Augusta Schleuter in March of 1897. In September of 1897, Augusta filed for divorce accusing John of having attacked her with a knife out of jealousy, however, she did not press charges and John was never arrested for any attack on his wife. The divorce was finalized in January of 1898.
His second marriage was to Lora Susan Sampson, April 2, 1900. To this union were born 8 children: Lora May Sylvia Prouty, Josephine E Prouty, John Earl Franklin Prouty, Bertha B Prouty, Ralph Willard Prouty, Rachel Louise Prouty, Frances Florence Prouty, and Donald Eugene Prouty.
At some point between 1920 and 1925, John and Lora parted ways because in 1930, Lora is living in Snohomish, Washington and her marital Status is divorced and her name is now Bumgarner. She has a daughter born in 1926, Nancy Beulah Bumgarner. I cannot Find John in 1930 but suspect he is in California.
John died in Seattle, Washington April 4, 1935
